INSTALLATION GUIDE

  • Floating Method: Suitable for most subfloors, floating installation doesn't demand nails or glue. Floors designed for this method come in click-and-lock or tongue-and-groove formats. Remember, a moisture-resistant wood seam glue and a protective underlayment pad are crucial for longevity and comfort.
  • Glue-Down Method: This involves sticking the floor directly to the subfloor using a high-quality, waterproof adhesive. While it ensures a firm hold, it's generally the most challenging DIY method, and seeking professional help is recommended.
  • Nail-Down Method: This involves attaching the floor to the subfloor using nails, staples, or cleats. Due to the specialized equipment and skills needed, a professional touch is usually the best route for this installation method.

Equip yourself with the right knowledge and choose the flooring and installation that best fit your needs!

WHAT IS TONGUE & GROOVE  CONSTRUCTION?

At the heart of wood flooring planks lies the tongue and groove mechanism. Each plank features a 'tongue' on one side and a matching 'groove' on the other. When placed side by side, these elements interlock seamlessly, providing a smooth and unified flooring surface. Tongue and groove flooring is versatile in its installation, allowing for glue-down, nail-down, or floating methods. Opt for a floating setup? Remember to use seam glue to ensure the planks stick firmly together.

WHAT IS AN ENGINEERED FLOOR?

Engineered hardwood is an innovation in flooring, designed with a top layer of specific wood species (around 1/16” - 1/8” thick) paired with a robust plywood core or a high-density fiberboard (HDF) base. Available in click-and-lock or tongue-and-groove designs, engineered floors are designed for hassle-free installation over most subfloors. For optimal results, let these floors acclimate in your space for 2-3 days before installation.

ENGINEERED FLOOR VS SOLID FLOOR?

Each flooring type has distinct benefits. For a personalized choice, our flooring experts are here to help. Engineered floors excel in moisture resistance, making them suitable for both above and below-grade installations. Solid wood, being a single piece of wood, is more susceptible to moisture-induced expansion, making it suitable only for above-grade placement. Engineered floors' design also simplifies installation—ideal for DIY enthusiasts. While both can be glued or nailed down, engineered floors offer the bonus of floating installation. And if you're racing against time, engineered hardwood takes just 2-3 days to acclimate, while solid wood asks for 2-3 weeks.

REDEFINING THE FLOORING GAME

For decades, the flooring industry remained stuck in outdated practices—burdened by inefficient distribution, inflated prices, and limited choices. That’s where Hardwood Bargains comes in.

In 2008, Ben Thompson and Ross Bayley recognized the same stagnation that plagued many 20th-century industries. Layers of brokers, sales reps, and middlemen drove prices up—sometimes by as much as 600% from factory cost—leaving customers to overpay for a product that didn’t always meet their needs.

Even worse, this outdated system created a gap between manufacturers and consumers, resulting in outdated designs and misaligned customer expectations.

Ben and Ross saw an opportunity for transformation. Inspired by disruptors like Warby Parker, they set out to create Hardwood Bargains—a revolutionary approach to flooring that prioritizes value, innovation, and customer satisfaction.
